Leading the future of veterinary education and research

 

Assistant, Associate or Full Professor Veterinary Infectious Diseases

 

Overview:  Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) offers a unique program of training on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. A cutting-edge curriculum, with innovative use of technologies and simulations, provides the best possible training for tomorrow’s veterinarians. Students benefit from seven semesters of integrated preclinical and clinical studies at the St Kitts campus followed by one year of clinical training at one of our affiliate veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States and Canada.


We prioritize recruitment of talented faculty and are now seeking a new member of our research team to join us as we develop new programs to best prepare our graduates to face the global opportunities and challenges of veterinary medicine in the 21st century. Our research program focuses on One Health in tropical and developing countries and includes zoonotic diseases, food safety and security, environmental health, and conservation medicine. We are currently developing postgraduate programs in these areas.


Responsibilities: The School seeks to attract first-class candidates who are research-active in zoonotic / infectious diseases related to One Health.  Reporting to the Section Head of Biomedical Sciences, the post-holder will be responsible for leading an independent research program or collaborative research, and for participating in a new initiative of the School in taught and research Masters and PhD programs, and promoting these to potential students, current students, and faculty. 


Qualifications: The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, and the ability to enthuse and influence veterinary and postgraduate students and faculty.  S/he will prioritize forging collaborations with relevant strategic partners to provide maximum impact for our research and programs.  S/he will have a record of publications related to infectious and parasitic diseases and be capable of supervising postgraduate students.

 

A PhD is required and a DVM, or comparable degree, is highly desired.  Experience  in teaching, learning and assessment, ideally in a veterinary school and an ability to conduct an independent or collaborative research program are also required.

 Associate or Full Professor of Conservation Medicine

Our ongoing research focuses on key issues strategically relevant to One Health in tropical and developing countries.  Four research centers advance productivity and standing of research and research training, and include One Health Center for Zoonoses and Tropical Veterinary Medicine, Integrative Mammalian Research, Conservation Medicine and Ecosystem Health, and Research and Innovation in Veterinary and Medical Education.  We are expanding and prioritizing the recruitment of talented faculty and are now seeking a key new member of our team to join us as we develop new programs to best prepare our graduates to face the global opportunities and challenges of veterinary medicine in the 21st century.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will join a team focussed on the delivery of graduate and postgraduate education in the area of conservation medicine and ecosystem health. A significant role will be the development and delivery of on-line programs in the area of conservation medicine and ecosystem, supported by experts in necessary education technologies. S/he will work closely with the Head of Department, Biomedical Sciences, the Director of the Centre for Conservation Medicine and Ecosystem Health, and the Director of Postgraduate Studies.  The successful candidate will be responsible for participation in a research program, resulting in publications in peer-reviewed journals, external support,and for mentoring students in Masters and PhD programs. 

 

Qualifications:  A DVM degree or comparable degree is required with additional specialist training and a PhD being highly desirable. Experience in the development of on-line programs would be an added advantage. A track record of publishing in quality journals, as well as a demonstrated potential to develop a collaborative or independent research program is required.  The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
